Based on the House on the Mango Street, there are many aspects of the story that identify me such as her social norm, her insecure feeling, how people look at her when she is alone. Back in Vietnam, since i went to school, i haved studied independently by myself because in my school's social norm suppose to be independent work, seperate goals. One day, when i came to U.S., eveything to me was strange, students required to study in a group, discussing and solving the problem with each other. I couldn't adapt to this social norm in a while because i was stuck with my old social norm. However, something even worster than everything that i had imagined about my life when i come to U.S. English is a popular language for every country, but unfortunately, i counldn't get to learn English when i came to U.S. Just as Esperanza, I was so alone in the first year of new school because i came here without English, i cound't communicate with other students, therefore i couldn't make friend with others. The solitary feeling also made me insecure about me, i was scared to talk to other people and eat luch with them in the lunchtime, i just sat alone in a corner of a building to eat my luch.
